Take Me - The New Single and Video from the Oliver Shaw Experience.

I’ve been listening to Oliver Shaw’s new single ‘Take Me’ which was released on the 7th of September this year, and thought I’d share a few thoughts. It’s a short, three+ minute track, but it carries quite a punch for its size. Oliver has described it himself as a very personal song, and you can hear that straight away.  There’s a rawness to it that makes the emotion feel real, which is probably why it works so well. Writing songs of this length is an art in its self. Like short stories it needs to create interest right out of the box and retain the listeners interest, this single does exactly that. As allways Backed by the extremely competent Oliver Shaw Experience this will have you humming along to that vocal riff in no time.

Musically, it falls into the rock singer songwriter space. Think heartfelt vocals, moody atmosphere, and melodies that stay with you after the first listen. It doesn’t try to overcomplicate things; instead, it relies on sincerity and atmosphere. That balance between clean production and human imperfections gives it character. I’ve mentioned elsewhere Olivers voice doesn’t aim for polish; it aims for truth. That’s what his fans love. There’s this haunted quality to it.

What really caught my attention is the way he marries the song with perfect visuals. He’s been developing  his video credentials with director of photography Mikey Barhj @mikey_bharj

for some time having collaborated on several popular videos. Storyboarded entirely by Oliver, its both ambitious and imaginative. The idea is to create a sort of magical visual journey to match the song’s emotional pull. This level of hands on artistry is rare and makes the project feel more personal, it was filmed on location in Clissold park in Stoke Newington London earlier in August.

“Take Me” feels like a strong step from Oliver, heartfelt, ambitious, and clearly crafted with care. If you’re into music that wears its heart on its sleeve and tries to take you somewhere emotionally, it’s worth checking out.
